Who we are

Where critical minerals meet clean energy.

Two forces are reshaping the global industrial economy: the race to secure critical minerals, and the transition to clean energy. Platinum group metals are where the two meet. They appear on the critical minerals lists of every major economy, and they are indispensable to industries from pharmaceuticals and electronics to automotive, petrochemicals, glass and green hydrogen.

South Africa holds roughly 80% of the world's PGM reserves, yet almost all of it leaves the country as refined metal with the greater value added elsewhere. Isondo Precious Metals is built to change that dynamic — a majority black-owned South African company building the industrial layer between the mine and the technology.

From our purpose-built facility at the OR Tambo Special Economic Zone we manufacture specialty PGM chemicals, catalyst precursors and membrane electrode assemblies for customers across multiple industries, and we will also recover precious metals from spent material through closed-loop recycling and refining. Green hydrogen is one of the sectors we supply. It is not the whole business.

What we make

Across the full downstream chain.

We operate from metal to functioning component and back again — specialty chemicals, catalyst precursors, membrane electrode assemblies, analytical services, and closed-loop recovery of the metal at end of life.

Specialty PGM Chemicals

A catalogue of platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium and iridium compounds serving twelve industry sectors, from pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals to electronics, automotive and electrochemistry.

PGM Catalysts & Precursors

Platinum and iridium catalyst technologies, precursor synthesis and catalyst ink formulation, developed and manufactured in house.

Membrane Electrode Assemblies

MEAs, the electrochemical heart of fuel cells and electrolysers, produced in cleanroom conditions to automotive standards.

Electrolyser & Fuel Cell Stacks

Stack design, fabrication and megawatt-scale deployment, with in-house CAD and automated quality control testing.

Analytical & MEA Testing

Accredited laboratories for precious metal assays, catalyst characterisation and MEA lifecycle and durability testing — open to third parties.

Recycling & Refining

Closed-loop recovery of platinum group metals from spent catalysts, process residues and end-of-life components, returning them to the value chain.

The value chain

From ore body to end market — and back again.

We operate across the beneficiation chain rather than a single step in it, and we recover the precious metal at end of life so it re-enters the same chain.

Why work with us

Supply security, at the source of the metal.

Vertically integrated

Catalyst chemistry, ink formulation, coating and assembly under one roof. Fewer handoffs, tighter tolerances, and a single point of accountability for performance.

Next to the resource

The facility sits alongside the world's dominant platinum reserves, in a Special Economic Zone with established incentives and a deep technical skills base.

Circular by design

We recover PGMs from spent catalysts and MEAs, and are developing a process to recycle PFSA membranes — returning material value to our customers.

How we operate

Four commitments we hold ourselves to.

  • Zero harm culture. Safety first across every operation, for our people and the environment.
  • Unwavering commitment. Focus, discipline and determination behind our mission.
  • Integrity and respect. Ethical business, fair treatment of every stakeholder.
  • High performance mindset. Continuous improvement of processes, systems and outcomes.
